Dr. Smith is one of the few physicians in the country to have Board certifications in Interventional Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine in addition to Cardiovascular Disease and Endovascular Medicine. He comes to The Christ Hospital from the University of Cincinnati where he served as the Director of the Cardiovascular ICU and the Chief Liaison for Emergency Cardiovascular Services. He has a strong interest in making the Cincinnati region a National model for excellence in emergency cardiovascular care. He was awarded the Accelerator II grant from the AHA and Duke Clinical Research Institute for the Cincinnati region to improve care of ST elevation MIs. He also developed the region’s first 24/7 PE response program at UC, implemented a shock program, initiated a radial first cardiac catheterization program as well as authored a vascular medicine and critical care training curriculum. He was the Primary Investigator for key interventional trials such as PHP and the Impella RP. He has served as an invited speaker locally, regionally and nationally as well as consistently published and presented at a National level. In his spare time he enjoys guitar, exercise and travel.
