About James G. Jollis, MD

James Jollis, MD, FACC, is a cardiologist with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular in Cincinnati, Ohio. He serves as the Associate Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship Program and Research Director for Cardiac Imaging.

A native of Cincinnati, Dr. Jollis grew up cheering for the Reds and enjoying UDF milkshakes. He also worked at Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education at The Christ Hospital during college summers.

His medical career after college led to Duke University, where he was a tenured professor of medicine and radiology and a founding member of the Duke Clinical Research Institute. His research focus has involved large clinical data sets and organizing hospitals, emergency medical systems, and communities to respond to cardiovascular emergencies in a coordinated timely response.

He returned to Cincinnati as part of the Accelerator project, an intervention that involved 12 metropolitan regions and one-quarter of all SST-elevation myocardial infarction patients enrolled in the American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology national registry.

This work focused on “moving care forward,” training and entrusting paramedics and emergency departments to diagnose STEMIs and activate cardiac catheterization laboratories. His most recent study involves an NHLBI-sponsored cluster-randomized trial of pre-hospital interventions to improve out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In the words of his co-investigator, “if a victim does not get defibrillated before the paramedics arrive, game over.”

Dr. Jollis graduated cum laude from Harvard College with an Artium Baccalaureus. He earned his medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Duke University.

Dr. Jollis is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Chair of the Get With The Guidelines Coronary Artery Disease Advisory Group for the American Heart Association. He has been published in dozens of medical journals including the American Heart Journal, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of the American Medical Association, and New England Journal of Medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Dean Kereiakes, President of The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute, has been a mentor, and Dr. Tim Henry, Medical Director of the Lindner Research Center, has been his great colleague, collaborator, and inspiration. He is thrilled to join Drs. Kereiakes and Henry, the Lindner Research Center, and The Christ Hospital Health Network in what he considers the leading and most dynamic cardiovascular enterprise in the country.
