About Ellen M. Farr, MD

Ellie Farr, MD, is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) who provides inpatient care at The Christ Hospital and outpatient care at The Joint & Spine Center on the hospital’s Mt. Auburn campus.

She has rehabilitation expertise working with patients with diagnoses including stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain cancer, amputation, spinal cord injury, ALS, Guillain-Barre, critical illness myopathy, cognitive impairment, and post-acute sequelae of COVID-19.

Dr. Farr was inspired to pursue a career in PM&R because of a combined love of science, problem solving and helping people. “Physiatry allows me to help patients with a neurological diagnosis improve their function and get back to their lives,” she says. Her care philosophy is to provide evidence-based care options to allow her patients to make decisions that make the most medical, cultural, fiscal and practice sense for them. She wants her patients to feel open to asking clarifying questions to ensure they have the best possible understanding of their options.

She earned a Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Neurobiology & Physiology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Business & Translation from The University of Maryland. She earned her Medical Degree from The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL and her fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. At the culmination of her residency, she was awarded the Sarah Baskin Research Award for her research involving diaphragm function under ultrasound on patients who had survived COVID-19 infection.

Dr. Farr is certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as well as Brain Injury Medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

In her free time, Dr. Farr enjoys spending time with her husband, a pediatric ENT, and their cats. She also enjoys reading, exercise, playing video games and trying new restaurants.
