Rita Schlanger, MD is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Primary Care who specializes in internal medicine. She provides care to patients 18 and older at the Miami Township location.
A passion for science and a desire to help others drove Dr. Schlanger to pursue a career in medicine at an early age. During school, she worked with a primary care physician and watching the impact of those personal interactions helped her decide on primary care as a specialty. “That’s when I fully realized my own desire to form longitudinal relationships with patients and to help them navigate their health and wellbeing,” she says.
Dr. Schlanger takes a patient-centric approach to providing care, which involves taking the time to get to know each patient’s unique circumstances, background, values, and goals – not just their physical conditions. “All of this information is crucial when developing a care plan in which the patient is an active and eager participant, and one that is manageable with their lifestyle,” she adds. This personal approach has helped her to be voted multiple times among the top one percent of providers nationwide in the Press Ganey Patient Experience Scores.
She encourages her patients to have an open mind and heart when they come to an appointment and to be willing to have open and honest conversations about their health that may not always be easy or comfortable but are important for achieving optimal health. “I always have your health and best interests in mind, and I will work with you to achieve your health goals,” she says.
Dr. Schlanger earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bucknell University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Cincinnati, and her Medical Degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident, and her IMSTAR Medical Education Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Department of Internal Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Schlanger enjoys spending time with her husband and their two sons. She also enjoys baking and dancing.
