Rachel Thomas, DO is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Primary Care who specializes in internal medicine. Provides care for patients eighteen years and older at the Kenwood location.
Dr. Thomas was inspired in her pursuit of a medical career after a negative experience with providers when her grandfather was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while she was in college. “I'll never forget how many doctors and medical professionals talked around him but not too him directly, or like a human being with a family waiting for results” she says. “I knew that I wanted to become an option for patients like him – someone who would talk to the patient as a person and not as a diagnosis.”
She advocates for her patients to have a voice in their own care, and she advises them to gain every bit of knowledge they can about their condition and their treatment options, and to speak up and ask questions if they feel the need. “it’s important for them to understand what the evidence and guidelines says so they can understand why we suggest a certain medication or treatment plan,” she says. “But at the end of the day, it is THEIR choice on what they want to do.”
Dr. Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Cincinnati and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys spending time with her husband, their two sons, and their English bulldog who she calls the “real baby of the family.” Her family loves to frequent all the Cincinnati family spots such as the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Kings Island, and all of the great parks.
