Courtney Thomas, CNP is a board-certified nurse practitioner with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular who specializes in outpatient women’s heart care through The Christ Hospital Women’s Heart Center. She sees patients at the Mason and Ft. Wright locations.
She was inspired to pursue a career in medicine at a young age while helping to care for her mother during her battle with breast cancer. “I saw firsthand how vulnerable patients and families can feel while navigating care,” she says. “But the impact of the care team stood out to me, not just through their expertise, but through their compassion, patience, and reassurance during a difficult time.”
That experience showed Courtney the importance of not only treating the condition but providing care and support for patients and their families as a whole, which includes education, early detection, and improving access to care. This approach is foundational to her philosophy of providing compassionate, holistic, patient-centered care with a focus on clear, two-way communications. “I believe in empowering patients through education and shared decision-making, so they feel supported and respected throughout their care,” Courtney says.
Courtney encourages her patients to focus on prevention strategies such as eating well, staying active, managing stress, avoiding smoking, and keeping up with their scheduled care. “Even small consistent changes can make a huge difference for long-term heart health,” she says.
She earned her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Northern Kentucky University. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of the American Nurses Association and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
When not providing care, her favorite way to recharge is to spend time with her husband and their three children. They especially enjoy exploring the outdoors as a family. She also enjoys reading the Bible and staying active through working out, hiking, and biking. She says she developed a passion for travel while growing up as a self-described “military brat.”
