Dr. Smucker earned his BA in Biology from Goshen College in Goshen, IN and his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in family medicine. He completed a fellowship in primary care faculty development at Michigan State University and went on to complete a residency and MPH in preventive medicine and epidemiology at the University of North Carolina, where he also completed a fellowship in primary care research.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American Board of Preventive Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine. He is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Smucker has earned several awards and honors throughout his career, has been a member of many professional committees and has been very involved with community service, both in the states and abroad. He has presented research at many national and international professional meetings, and has published more than forty journal articles and book chapters. He joins The Christ Hospital Medical Associates as a physician with the Palliative Care Consult Service, and Program Director of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program at Christ Hospital.
