Juan Umaña-Pizano, MD is a physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular who specializes in cardiothoracic surgery. He provides surgical care for patients at The Christ Hospital in Mt. Auburn.
Watching his father’s volunteer work in medical missions inspired Dr. Umaña-Pizano at a young age to pursue a career in medicine as an opportunity to continue the legacy of helping others. He strives to offer his patients the best technical expertise and clinical outcomes, with a focus on accompanying each patient as an individual with unique needs through their disease process. He encourages his patients to play an active role throughout that process.
“Heart surgery requires a relationship built on trust,” he says. “Never hesitate to come to your physician or to ask questions when issues arise. We are always here for you.”
Dr. Umaña-Pizano earned his Medical Degree from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia where he also minored in biomedical engineering. He completed his residency and his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic where he received the Seal Family Fellow Award and the Clinical Excellence Award. He is board eligible with the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery) and he is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
