Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Improving the health of our community includes an intentional commitment to equity and inclusion for our patients and their families, our team members, volunteers and students, and in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky communities we call home.

Our commitment to a culture of equity and inclusion at The Christ Hospital Health Network empowers each of us to reach our full potential by striving to represent and celebrate human diversity in all we do – gender, race, culture, faith, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability – all the experiences, perspectives, and viewpoints that make us unique.

It is in these unique perspectives that we are able to work collaboratively to solve today's challenges and recognize tomorrow's opportunities to improve care, create clinical breakthroughs, and heal those we serve – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

A commitment rooted in our history

Providing a healing environment that fosters diversity and inclusion has been at the forefront our mission since our early beginnings in the 19th century.  The Christ Hospital was founded in 1889 amid a need to make healthcare more accessible in our community. A deaconess named Isabella Thoburn took a woman with cancer into her care who could not be admitted to the city hospital because she was an out of state resident.

Thoburn shared the story with local leaders, including Procter & Gamble co-founder James Gamble, who envisioned a hospital where the suffering could receive treatment, regardless of where they lived.

From that moment, The Christ Hospital has been driven by a mission to improve the health of our community by providing exceptional outcomes and the finest experiences, all in an affordable way.

Core Values

Our core values reflect our commitment to equity and inclusion, influencing everything we do in our relentless pursuit of excellence.

We anticipate the needs of those we serve

Around here, it's all about providing the finest experiences – for our patients, visitors, or families. We practice empathy and look for ways to improve their healthcare experiences through actively listening, surprising and delighting.

We are forward thinking

We're proactive. We identify and remove barriers that might keep us from doing our best work or providing the best care. We explore and test new and better ways of meeting our patients' needs.

We build inclusive connections

We bring joy to others by personalizing each interaction. We create an inclusive environment of mutual respect and take the initiative to build caring relationships with our colleagues and patients.

We act with shared determination

We understand how each person's work and talents fit into the big picture. We share information and ideas and focus on progress, not perfection. We take initiative to stay informed and are proactive in sharing information with others.
