Dr. Rod Flynn is a Surgical Oncologist. He received his medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and completed a surgical internship at Allegheny University Hospital in Philadelphia. He then completed a residency in general surgery at The Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh. After completion of his fellowship in 2004, Dr. Flynn started practicing surgical oncology in hospitals in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Dr. Flynn is passionate about using technology to improve quantity and quality of life. In his most recent role at Cancer Center Treatment Centers of America he built their Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) program which gives patients with specific types of advanced cancer hope who were otherwise resigned to hospice. He looks forward to building that program, and sustaining an up-to-date and cutting-edge presence for surgical oncology at The Christ Hospital. Dr. Flynn enjoys collaborating with others on the medical team to offer unique, “out of the box” treatments and often says, “Aggressive tumors warrant even more aggressive treatment measures.” He is a strong proponent of multidisciplinary management of patients who are seeking a comprehensive treatment plan for their cancer. He also understands the importance of a “holistic approach” for cancer patients treating not only the tumor, but also the mind, body, and spirit of the patient. Dr. Flynn is looking forward to returning to the community hospital setting and caring for cancer patients in the greater Cincinnati region. He is also looking forward to returning to and giving back to the place he was born, The Christ Hospital! Dr. Flynn is married to his best friend, Betlehem (Betty) and they have two young daughters, Grace and Micah. They are heavily involved in church life and fellowship and strongly believe that how we live our lives and treat others should be a reflection of our love for God and His love for us. He enjoys most major sports and looks forward to adopting the Bengals as his hometown team.
