"The sciences have always intrigued me. My interest in becoming a physician was cultivated throughout my life. I seek out new opportunities to improve my skills in practice and care of patients."
Dr. Lanka specializes in caring for patients with all aspects of lung-related problems. She received her medical degree from The Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, India. She completed her internship, residency in Internal Medicine, and a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, OH.
Dr. Lanka also completed specialized training in interventional pulmonology, focusing on advanced training in intrabronchial valve and navigational bronchoscopy. Intrabronchial Valve is a state-of-the-art treatment for prolonged air leaks. Navigational bronchoscopy aids in the biopsy of lung nodules that would normally be difficult to reach with minimal trauma and enables the physician to diagnose and possibly treat benign and malignant lung disease.
In addition to the traditional medical education, Dr. Lanka also obtained her Masters of Public Health in focusing on epidemiology, or the study of patterns and causes of health and disease. She is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Lanka received several awards during her fellowship in recognition of excellence in patient care, academic accomplishments and best intern. Dr. Lanka's research has been published in prominent medical journals.
During her free time Dr. Lanka enjoys spending time with her husband, son and daughter, as well as exploring the outdoors and trying different cuisines.
