​​​​​​Resources to Quit Smoking & Tobacco Use

Are you ready to quit smoking? If yes, you have won half the battle. Quitting smoking is one of the most important steps you can take to improve your health. Quitting isn’t easy but it is worth it. 

The Christ Hospital Health Network is committed to helping you on your journey to stop smoking. There are many resources available to help you quit.

Over-the-Counter Nicotine Replacements

Over-the-counter (OTC) products help curb nicotine cravings and the symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal that can occur the first few weeks of smoking cessation. These products do contain some nicotine. Examples of OTC nicotine replacements are nicotine gum, nicotine patch, nicotine lozenge, or nicotine nasal spray.

Non-nicotine Prescription Medication

There are non-nicotine prescription medications that can help you stop smoking. They can be in pill or inhaler formats. They must be prescribed by a physician and may be covered by insurance. 

Alternative Therapy

Non-conventional methods such hypnosis and acupuncture have been proven to help people stop smoking.

Community Support

There are many organizations that provide tools and support to help you quit smoking. 

Freedom From Smoking Tobacco Cessation Program.

Freedom from Smoking is a FREE 7-week program developed by the American Lung Association and provided to you by The Christ Hospital. The program is designed help nicotine dependent adults plan a successful quit attempt by providing information about nicotine replacement options, craving control and other tools to help you quit smoking. Classes are FREE and taught by a trained Freedom from Smoking facilitator.

National Cancer Institute (NCI) Quit Line

The NCI quit line offers one-on-one counseling and other resources for smokers who are willing to quit. 

Ohio Tobacco Quit Line

The Ohio Tobacco Quit Line provides personal quit coaching and telephone counseling FREE of charge to ALL Ohioans, regardless of insurance status or income. It also provides FREE nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges for up to eight weeks to eligible participants. Call 800-QUIT-NOW (800-784-8669).

Kentucky Tobacco Quit Line

Quit Now Kentucky offers coaching via phone, email, text and instant message. It helps participants establish a quit plan, provides education material and resources and membership in an online community of others that are also trying to quit smoking. Developed in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, Become An Ex  helps you set a customized quit plan, provides guides and tools and connects you with the EX Community of other tobacco users that have been through it all.
