Fritsch: Hey everybody, it's Fritch at Q102, and I'm here today at The Christ Hospital with Dr. Kazemi, who is an orthopedic surgeon. And we're going to talk a little bit about your joints. So, there are a lot of people that might feel pain in some of their joints, and we know the holidays are coming up. Why is right now a really good time to think about getting treatment for joint pain?

Dr. Kazemi: So, I would say that having your joint replacement done, if you need it around the holidays, the advantage would be that your rehab process is going to be in the winter during the colder months that everything's inside. And then by the time you get to April, May, and the weather is good outside, you can get outside and do the stuff that you want to do.

Fritsch: Yeah, you'll be fixed in time for the good weather.

Dr. Kazemi: You'll be recovered by the good weather. Yes.

Fritsch: So joint pain is something that definitely differs for everyone. Some people may feel like stiffness, some people may not be able to move at all, but we know a lot of people out there are thinking, “Oh, I'll just deal with it later,” or “Let me take care of that in January.” In addition to the fact that you could be rehabbed, what is some advice maybe that you would be willing to give someone that keeps saying those things?

Dr. Kazemi: Yeah, I think the best option would be to see an orthopedic surgeon so that at least the options that you have for your joint pain, for whatever pathology it is, sometimes it's watchful waiting. Sometimes you can do physical therapy, sometimes we can do injections. That would help. And then ultimately for some percentage of people—a low percentage of people—surgery would help. And at least that way you would know your options, and you can make a good decision.

Fritsch: Thank you very much!
