Oh, baby! Check out The Christ Hospital Liberty Family Birthing Center!

It’s been several years since I had my daughter Penelope, but I can still remember that day just like it was yesterday. My water broke, we went to the hospital, checked into Labor and Delivery—and then we were off to the races.

I do remember that we had to move from place to place at the hospital where we delivered Penelope, and it felt a little unsettling. I wish The Christ Hospital Liberty Family Birthing Center was an option back then!

“Boutique” birthing is definitely the only way that I would have a baby now. I reached out to Dr. Jennifer Demos, an OBGYN at The Christ Hospital Birthing Center, to find out more about “boutique” birthing and the Liberty Family Birthing Center.

What is a “boutique” birthing center?

The Christ Hospital Liberty Birthing Center is a state-of-the-art, boutique birthing center providing mom, baby and family world-class care and comfort. Dr. Demos says, “Liberty feels like a boutique birthing center because of the intimate setting. You aren't in the middle of a big hospital, so it doesn't seem quite so intimidating. The style of the room, an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum), keeps you in one room. Each room has a coffee maker, mini fridge and a microwave. The bathrooms are gorgeous. It almost feels more like a hotel room than a hospital room.”

I can validate this because I’ve been on the tour. The bathrooms are bigger than most bathrooms you will see in hotels, and each room has tons of storage/closet space. The Liberty Birthing Center is different from a regular hospital because they aren’t inside a big hospital. The parking is easy to navigate; it's quick to get to the unit. Dr. Demos says, “We have nine birthing suites, with spa-like bathrooms. There are operating rooms, so we can do scheduled C-sections or emergent ones if we need to.”

The Liberty Birthing Center has so much to offer!

I recently had the chance to talk with Paige, one of the patients from the Liberty Birthing Center, and was so impressed with all the options offered to moms and their families. Paige walked me through her experience, and you can see our video tour at the top of this blog.

Dr. Demos explains, “We offer excellent care in our Labor and Delivery unit. We support all methods of pain control, whether that's an epidural or someone who chooses to go without any pain medication. In addition, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), IV pain medication and hydrotherapy.

“There are lactation consultants who make rounds 7 days a week to help with any breastfeeding. Our nurses are trained in Spinning Babies (techniques used for labor positioning, getting the baby aligned in the pelvis correctly to facilitate vaginal delivery). We have 24/7 coverage from OB, anesthesia and neonatology. This means that someone from each of those fields is always in the building.

“We also offer outpatient lactation appointments any day of the week. We offer many birthing classes. These can be taken in Liberty Township or on our main campus in Mt. Auburn. There are general 101 birthing classes, breastfeeding classes, baby care, tours and classes for those who want to go without pain medication. We even offer a sibling class!”
