MD Insider: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

We have been providing leading-edge cardiovascular care to the region for many years and now, thanks to the generosity of the Farmer Family Foundation, our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is poised to to be a marquee center at the national level.

The Farmer Family Foundation has allowed us to provide superior physician leadership and state of the art technology along with a specific focus on nursing excellence and education. In fact, a significant portion of this grant supports nurse education, credentialing and merit achievement. At the forefront of this effort are the physician director, Tim Smith, MD, and co-director, Greg Egnaczyk, MD.

There are a number of features which immediately distinguish our CVICU, including:
  • Patient focus
  • Physician leadership
  • Support of nursing
  • Leading-edge technology
We're proud of our multisdisciplinary team approach to patient care. We have dedicated board-certified physicians in all major specialties who work together day and night to provide care for the most severely ill patients in the region. With the largest mechanical cardiac support and structural-valvular heart programs in the area, our CVICU is the centerpiece for care.

At the “heart” of the CVICU are our  nurses. The Farmer Grant will support our CVICU nurses with local and national educational opportunities, cardiovascular and critical- care society memberships and certifications as well as merit-based recognition, to ensure they are equipped to provide the very best care possible.

We are also making structural changes to the CVICU to assure that both patients and their families receive the best experience possible.
