The Christ Hospital Health Network is pleased to announce the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council (EPC), representing 132 school districts and boards of developmental disabilities in 18 Ohio counties, will partner with the network’s Center of Excellence program for total hip and knee replacement benefits. The Center of Excellence program allows employers to contract directly with The Christ Hospital for specific procedures at a fixed price.

The EPC is a council of governments with over 50 years of shared services experience, pooling the purchasing power of Ohio School Districts. Since 1968, EPC has been helping member school districts reap significant savings through cooperative, large volume purchasing for school supplies, equipment, utilities and insurance.

“The EPC continually looks for ways to enhance the patient experience for our school district members while also promoting high quality and cost-effective healthcare,” said Doug Merkle, Benefits Director of Southwestern Ohio EPC. “Partnering with The Christ Hospital Joint & Spine Center of Excellence helps us achieve that goal. We are pleased to bring this opportunity to the employees of school districts across 18 counties in Ohio that include Clermont, Warren, Butler and Montgomery, just to name a few.

EPC Schools joins a list of over 170 national, regional and local employers and plan sponsors participating in The Center of Excellence program.

“Bringing bundled orthopedic care to EPC Schools through our Center of Excellence program executes a cost containment strategy through one of our many value-based care initiatives,” said Ken Schorsch, the Christ Hospital Director of Business Development. “In a time when many schools, school districts and education organizations find the funding of essential initiatives more and more challenging, we’re excited to partner with a highly respected organization like EPC Schools to bring a cost containment strategy built on exceptional outcomes and patient experiences to their members.”

The Christ Hospital Health Network, which is in discussion with several large national employers with self-funded health plans, has emerged as a national leader in designing, implementing and managing bundled medical services through Center of Excellence agreements. The Christ Hospital currently offers Center of Excellence programs for joint & spine care, women’s care and cardiology.
